The application process is very simple. Applications can be requested either from ALAHA or directly from the Certification Board Chairman. The application process consists of:
- Verification of employment: You are who you say you are and do what you say you do. It also has an area for specific equipment/systems which the candidate oversees responsibility.
- Preliminary application: This is a "self check" form to allow the applicant to assess their experience/credentials in order to stop the process with no fee if they cannot "pass" the self exam via points awarded
- Phase one application: Describes the applicants overall career healthcare engineering experience, education & responsibility levels: 50 points are required on phase one to be considered for certification via phase 2 application: There is a $50 review fee when the phase 1 & 2 applications are sent.
- Phase 2 application: Identifys the most recent 3 years of the applicants overall career healthcare engineering experience, education & responsibility levels: The phase 2 application requires: New: 43 points for one year certification, 54 points for 2 year 65 points for 3 year
- Renewal: only the phase 2 application is necessary for renewal review. The fee is $30. one year certification is 48 points. two year 64 points, 3 year 80 points.
The Certification Board consists of a chairman, at least 3 CHE's and the current president (whether or not certified). All applications are reviewed impartially and are scored based on established criteria and points system.
