What does AlaSHE provide its members? Regularly scheduled educational meetings on such topics as engineering management, energy conservation, preventive maintenance, managing your medical equipment program, electrical safety, fire safety and codes and standard updates. The Society conducts semi-annual statewide conferences to present information on current issues from the experts and to exchange ideas with Society members from across the state. This also is an opportunity for AlaSHE families to meet one another and enjoy social events together.
A certification program which provides a method of formal recognition of hospital engineering development, competence and status from within the profession.

Who is eligible for AlaSHE membership? Individuals eligible for membership in the Society shall be of the supervisory level, or higher, and shall be actively employed in the field of healthcare engineering, biomedical engineering, maintenance, and/or safety and security as a regular, full time employee in a healthcare facility with overnight patients, including ambulatory care centers.
Membership in the Society shall become effective upon submission of a completed application form, approval by the Board of Directors of the Society and receipt by the Secretary of the specified dues. Should an application not be approved by the board, the dues will be refunded. Membership in the Society shall not be restricted by state boundaries.
"Active" members of AlaSHE are those professionals who are interested in personal development and professional advancement and who engage in one or more of the following healthcare management tem responsibilities:
- Plant Operations
- Plant Engineering
- Safety Management
- Security Management
- Biomedical Engineering
Types of Memberships Active Membership (voting) Active membership in the Society shall be for persons of supervisory level, or higher, who are actively employed in the field of healthcare engineering, biomedical engineering, maintenance, and/or safety and security as a regular, full-time employee in a healthcare facility with overnight patients, including ambulatory care centers. Active members receive all Society mailings, may hold office, vote on issues, participate after registration in all Society meetings and any other rights and privileges as adopted by the Board of Directors and the Society.
Associate Members (non-voting) Associate membership in the Society shall be available to a member of a professional service organization such as; professional engineer or architect directly related to healthcare services. Membership benefits are limited to the receipt of Society publications and participation in the Spring and Annual meetings on a non-solicitory basis, following standard meeting registration. Associate members may not vote nor hold office and shall not exceed ten percent (10%) of the number of active memberships in the Society.
Subscribing Members Subscribing membership in the Society shall be available to manufacturers, vendors, distributors, and their respective employees that offer specific services to the healthcare industry. Membership benefits are limited to the receipt of Society publications. Subscribing members may not vote, hold office, nor participate in Spring or Annual (Fall) meetings except as an exhibitor as provided through current exhibitor guidelines.
